The 5-Step Extension Removal Process
Removing thick enhancements safely requires time, top-tier tools, and absolute precision to avoid grinding into the natural nail plate.
Step 1: Length Debulking
The process begins by safely clipping down the artificial length of the extension to match your natural fingertip, reducing the amount of material that needs to be dissolved.
Step 2: Precision E-File Thinning
Because acrylic and hard gel are incredibly thick, an expert technician uses a professional e-file to gently shave down the bulk of the product, stopping safely before reaching the natural nail.
Step 3: Deep Acetone Soak
For soak-off systems (Acrylic and Gel-X), the thinned-out extensions are wrapped tightly in acetone-soaked foil or submerged in warm acetone bowls to melt the remaining structural bonds.
Step 4: Gentle Product Removal
After 15-20 minutes, the melted acrylic or soft gel is gently nudged off using a wooden tool. If Hard Gel was used (which does not soak off), the final thin layer is expertly filed away by hand.
Step 5: Nail Rehabilitation
